Applied Data Science & Machine Learning

Build a model you can evaluate, explain, and improve.

Work through one business case from a simple baseline to a documented machine-learning solution, with honest evaluation at every step.

A good fit for

Who’s this for?

Analysts, data engineers, and developers taking their first substantial steps into applied machine learning.

Before we start

Basic Python, pandas, and introductory statistics. A readiness exercise confirms suitability. The analytics foundations course is a starting point, followed by independent practice.

The programme

Build the skill, step by step.

10 three-hour sessions over 2 weeks remotely. The day-by-day outline below shows what we cover.

Day 1Frame the problem

Choose a useful prediction task, establish a simple baseline, explore the dataset, and identify leakage risks. Compare when conventional ML, an LLM, or a simple rule is appropriate.

Day 2Prepare the data

Handle missing values, encoding, feature preparation, train/validation/test separation, and reproducible scikit-learn pipelines.

Day 3Train and compare

Practise regression and classification, cross-validation, suitable metrics, and controlled parameter tuning.

Day 4Understand failures

Investigate errors, imbalanced data, interpretability, practical fairness considerations, and the limits of model predictions.

Day 5Complete the project

Build and present an end-to-end solution, document limitations, and prepare a model handover with monitoring requirements.

What you take away

  • Reproducible training pipeline
  • Model comparison and evaluation report
  • Model documentation and limitations
  • Final project presentation
  • Monitoring requirements for handover

The practical details

A clear scope. A team price.

  • One-hour preparation call to align goals and check readiness.
  • Participant setup checklist, exercise materials, and reusable templates.
  • Live, instructor-led training for your private team, delivered in English.
  • One 90-minute follow-up clinic within 30 days of the course.

Each teaching day is six live hours, split into two three-hour sessions remotely. Two-day courses run over one week; three-to-five-day courses run over two weeks. On-site delivery uses full days, with travel quoted separately. Dates by arrangement.

Custom implementation, extensive adaptation, extra participants, and travel are quoted separately. Tool subscriptions, cloud usage, and developer accounts are paid separately.

All prices are per private team, excluding VAT. English-language delivery. Dates by arrangement.

Good questions

Before you book

Is this suitable for complete programming beginners?

You need basic Python, pandas, and introductory statistics. We use a readiness exercise before delivery. Analytics Foundations plus practice can help prepare you.

Will we train a large language model?

No. The standard course focuses on applied machine learning with tabular data and scikit-learn. We discuss when an LLM is appropriate; deep learning and fine-tuning are extensions.

Will the model be deployed to production?

You leave with a reproducible pipeline, evaluation evidence, and a documented handover. Full production deployment requires a separately scoped extension.

What does the starting price include?

The standard remote package for up to 8 people, a one-hour preparation call, readiness checklist, exercise materials, reusable templates, and one 90-minute follow-up clinic within 30 days. All prices exclude VAT. Custom implementation, extensive adaptation, extra participants, and travel are quoted separately. Tool subscriptions, cloud usage, and developer accounts are paid separately.

Can we arrange on-site training?

Yes. On-site delivery uses full teaching days, with travel quoted separately. Remote delivery splits each teaching day into two three-hour sessions. All teaching is in English, with dates arranged by enquiry.
